Default 1982 sportster zeinth carb

I have a 1982/1000cc sportster that i just bought and woke up from the dead.

It has a zeinth carb that i've cleaned. I have not messed with the float levels. I've put new plugs in the bike.

The carb has three adjustment screws, one for the throttle position/idle and two mixture screws.

I can get the bike to run and move but it pops in various gears at various speeds.

Can anyone tell me how to adjust or tune this carb? I just need the basics

Thanks
-Nick

wow wee... there are a lot of bendix carbs popping up on the forums.

here is a thread that will help you sort it out:

http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s...ht=bendix+carb

the screws on top are Idle mixture (screw closest to the motor) and main Jet adjustment (screw in the middle of the top of the carb)

You may just need to adjust the main jet adjustment. Try, next time you ride it, to adjust it slowly and see if the popping goes away.
