I checked the oil pump timming and its off.the hole in the breather sleeve gear doesn't line up with the breather bushing.its about 1/8 to 1/25 off to the right.I checked twice on my crank 40 deg advance mark..when I line the pump gears up the advance line is gone..could someone please tell me how to make a tool to get the pinion gear off.thanx
I have no experience with that pinion gear - the newer IronHeads p gear slips on and is held in place with a lock washer. However i believe that all you need to remove it is a simple puller from Princess Auto, Canadian Tire, Harbor Freight, etc.
There is a special tool for re-installing it. The main purpose of the tool is to set the precise spacing as given in the Factory Service Manual 99484-78. You may be able to re-install and get this spacing with ordinary tools.
Best to wait until someone with direct experience chimes in.
