Default Switching from Drum to Disc?

Hi,
Does anyone know where I can find instructions on how to switch over my front drum brake to a disc? It is for a 1972 XLH.

Thanks,
Barry

I cannot say where you can get instructions to make the switch over, but I have the factory manual that tells you what parts are different and how to put it all together.
First, you will need a new wheel.
Next will be a brake disc. This is best accquired along with the wheel.
You will need a front brake caliper unit.
You will need to change out the fork legs so you can bolt on the caliper.
You will need the brake line set up.
You will need the front brake lever and hydraulic assembly.

Your best way of getting all of this is to find a bike that has damage to something other than the front end. Or, maybe one that has has front end damage, then buy a rim and respoke it.

In my opinion this is going to be far more expensive than having a disc brake warrents. It is up to you how bad you want to do the change out. Be prepared for a bit of expense is all I'm saying..................pg

PG,
Thank you. That does sound like a lot of work and expense. I am just having trouble getting used to these drums. They sure don't "stop on a dime" but maybe I can get used to them.

If you're really interested, contact this guy: http://www.fabkevin.com/
You'll still need a new wheel, disc, master cylinder, caliper, appropriate axle w/spacers. Fab Kevin can make a bracket that will allow the use of a Tociko or other caliper on your existing front end. It'll hang from the fender bolt holes.
