I think that article is a lot of hope rather than fact. From what I've heard from dealership principles they are to receive 2 bikes not 5 and there is only 200 worldwide dealers that bought into the new division of HD. They had to pay for a separate franchise and pay to purchase the charger and have it installed, NOT HD. Then, send tech's to HD's school for the bike prior to any being delivered to them and that cost them as well. A price tag of ~ $100,000 for the franchise and charger they say. Also one needs to remember that HD reports that it sold the bike, when it goes to the dealership, not a retail sale. Another thing about the deposit is that they are refundable and there was no retail price for them when many of the deposits were made.
So now there is the HD ICE division and the HD AMP division. Let's hope it works out as it could very well break the MoCo.
You may have been misled Steve ,that's all I can say. The dealerships here that are getting the Livewire it's on corporates dime. I know the floor plan arrangements too so under your assumption then 100% of the Livewire bikes would appear to of been sold.
I remember the hype that preceded the V-Rod back in 2002 too. The local Akron, Oh dealer sold every unit, forced the buyer to take saddlebags and windshields (added to the bike before it hit the showroom floor,) and retailed them for close to $25,000, After that first year, sales fell off and never recovered. 500 electric bikes spoken for does not guarantee future success IMO. With the competition at about half the price, I don't see long term success here.

Peace.
If that’s the case, they changed the way they’re selling them. A while back my friend (sales manger) at at dealership in AZ told me that his store was not going to sell them for the reasons that Steve cited. As I said, that was a while ago.

Here in Australia it's on corporates dime for all the Livewire infrastructure.
Local dealership in South Dakota, says they were suppose to get a few bikes this year, but are holding off til 2020 because they are afraid they won't sell, no interest in them right now.

Yet 50% of those becoming available have had down payments put on them.
