Apples and Oranges....in the 70's vehicles weren't going the speeds that they are today.
If I take my 78 750 SOHC out for a blast and end up on the highway you have to run 80mph to keep from gettin run over round here. It was NEVER designed to run at that speed for long periods of time. It'll do it, but it aint comfortable at 80, it's twitchy and buzzie at that speed. That and it just doesn't have the weight behind it to be smooth and settled, around town she king though. In contrast I can do 80 all day long on my 87 FLHTP with 1 hand on the bars for hours.
But then in 1978 I had a 58 Duo-Glide for my long distance bike and the 750 was my DD, and was disposable as far as I was concerned. I've been ridin baggers all my life...as speed go up so must the size, weight, and power of the touring machines.

In regards to the Honda 750 Fours, i used to drive a truck all over the Eastern part of of the US. Around 1990 for a month or so i started noting which type or brand of motorcycle i saw the most traveling the Interstates. It was not Harleys, BMW's or any such. It was the 750 Honda Fours. I guess there were just so many of them made that they were everywhere.
