I think his point was all new products especially after a major redesign even with extensive testing there will be problems. Thus we are beta testers or early adopters. Just like a new iPhone. Some people love Apple so much they wait in line when a new phone is released. I was not waiting in line and had no plan to trade in at all, but the made the mistake of taking a demo ride! I think there was an issue with some type of clamp really early on that was quickly fixed by HD at the source. Anyway, lots of folks that remember the bad old days said they would wait one to two years for HD to get the kinks out. Well I know two of them riding an M8 now just like me. HD planned and budgeted for some level of recalls on this new design, all well run companies do. So far in this case they are able to bank that money because so far so good. I think HD got it right (or as right as possible) this time. Love my bike. Winter sucks!!!
That was exactly my intent Riknbeth, too bad it was lost in my Canadian translation. I know that HD did thousands of hours of testing and riding before they released the M8, I don't buy a Harley without doing detailed research to ensure I know what I may be getting into. Like you, I wasn't going to wait for 2018 or later just in case something goes wrong. I believe the MoCo will back their product and on top of that I purchased the extended warranty. I've had mine just under 2 weeks/100 mi. (temp hasn't been above 48 degrees since then, and mostly raining). Replaced my 2013 FLSTC. The King is smooth as silk, handles like a dream, pulls like a train. I'm VERY happy!
Picked up my RGU a little over a week ago and despite a few days of all day rain and no riding I am just over 700 trouble free miles with the 1000 mile service scheduled for Sat. I love this thing more each day that I ride
No issues, but then I have never really had any of the "issues" with any of mine. man after reading about my 07 on the net I was ready to load the 45 colt and shoot it . No sense letting it live in such pain. Turns out 75,000 miles basically trouble free , few minor warranty issues covered. Last I saw it 85K still going.
Looking forward to the same results from my M8, I have had with them all.

I'm a beta tester on two M8 bikes. My wife's 107 and my 114.
She has run three 103 bikes over 45K each trouble free. I have had two out of three 110's have major issues before 46K miles. So I figure its not much of a gamble in the new motor. After 9 years Harley still could not get the 110 right, still having a large amount of lifer failures.
That said, motor wise no issues on either of our M8's so far. She has over 5K on hers and I have 10,384 on mine. If there are issues, it will be under warranty, just like the 15 that had the motor replaced with 44K on it due to lifter failure.
