Hello everyone. Just a question about the M8 idle. I only have about 300 km on my new Street Glide Special. After the bike warms up and the idle drops down to around 850 rpm the idle sometimes bounces around a bit. I am asking because I had read that at first service the idle might be raised up to around 900 or 950. Does anybody else have a motor with an idle that jumps around a bit? It will sit at around 850 then drop maybe to 750 or 800 then jump up to 950 or 1000 then back down. Not a huge issue as the bike never stalls but I'm just wondering if this is common at all. Thanks for any input you guys might have.
mine fluctuated a tiny bit..but always stabilizes rather quickly, same behavior after the bump to 950..don't sweat it, working as designed..I don't know if they do a Digital Tech change as part of service but I had my Stage 1 done at the time and it came back 950..ask them about it at your 1K

Thanks for the reply. This is my first harley davidson and very different from bikes I've owned in the past. The V-twin is a big change from my triple so I'm still getting a feel for it. Cheers.

If your bike's idle is jumping all around anywhere between 750 and 1000 rpm, it's not completely warmed up yet.

Mine did this in the beginning as well. Start the bike, do not touch throttle, let bike idle in the driveway for 15 to 20 minutes then shut off. Wait a few minutes, then restart and ride. This fixed my issue.
Mine is exactly the same. You get a nice "potato, potato" when it is bouncing around 850 rpm, which is very normal. I believe the HD engineers put in a lot of time and effort to keep this signature vibration while keeping the bike smooth as silk at higher rpm's. Have fun, ride safe.
