Default Engine Oil Leak

Hey, I'm new to the site and just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing any issues like I'm having. I just bought my first new Harley thinking that now I could go on longer rides without any issues. I've had the bike 5 weeks and have 500 miles on it. Week before last I noticed oil on the exhaust and timing cover. I took it into the shop thinking it was coming from the rocker box. After a week of being in the shop, of course, that's what they said was wrong. I picked the bike up drove for about 80 miles and noticed oil all over my boots. So I took it right back in. So now there telling me that a stud in the head is causing the issue and they have to put a new head on the front and of course, it's on back order because of the new bikes being built. I'm overly pissed because now 2 of the 6 weeks I've had this bike its been in the shop.

Better to get that out of the way now than while 1000 miles from home.

Welcome to the forum!

Stud in the head is causing the issue / oil leak? So its leaking out of the headgasket?
First I've heard of that type of issue.

Exactly!! I'm really trying to be nice but the more I think about it the less I trust it. It's hard to pay 30k for a bike that is unusable. I want my old bike back at this point.

If it goes again, I would seriously consider going back to the dealer you got it from and having them give you a new bike because this one is a lemon. I hate to hear that you're having these kinds of problems because I'm sure there are thousands of us out there that bought the new m8s and have had thousands upon thousands of riding on them worry free. I have about 5k on my CVO SG and the only problem I'm having is eating too many bugs because I can't wipe the sh*t eating grin off my face that I get every time I'm on my new scoot. Hope your dealer can sort it out this time, if not go in with all guns firing and demand a new bike. Just my two cents worth. Best of luck.

I wonder if this is my problem. I thought it was coming from the breather, but I have taken oil out of the crankcase and it is blowing it enough oil to have it dripping down the side of the bike after an hour long ride. I had a pool under the bike last ride. It's going in tomorrow for its first service. This better be fixed.

Just a little update on the bike. I asked more questions about the head, and from them beating around the bush the best I can figure (from my experience of 30y as a tech for GM and International trucks) is that the face of the top of the head where the rocker box bolts to is either warped or machined wrong. I'm supposed to have it back by this weekend and HD headquarters has informed me that they will be sending one of their field technicians in a few weeks to completely go over the bike and address all my concerns with the bike to make sure it is in 100% top shape as it should be. I'll update again after I get it back and ride it to make sure everything is good.

"Nice"? Screw that! Tell 'em you want a new bike right now or else you'll start a Lemon-Law suit.

That might just do the trick!

Or maybe just trade it straight across for a leftover '16 Rushmore bike (with a few thousand bucks in dealership credit for your trouble, of course) and leave the unpaid beta-testing to other folks.

When I bought my '15, I was so concerned about some of the problems I'd heard and read about that the sales manager offered me a buyback deal if something serious went wrong or broke in the first year. That convinced me of their confidence in the bike and so far it's been completely justified.

Wonder if anybody's offering that on the M8's? I doubt it!

Did you ask your dealer for a loaner while MOCO decides what wrong?

I will definitely be demanding a new motorcycle. No way do I pay that kind of cash and have a torn down bike I don't trust. No way .......
