I did not like the hydraulic clutch at first but got use to it. Works really good and now I prefer it. I'm starting to get so modern lately. LOL! ABS linked brakes, cruise control, smart security, sensors up the ying yang...But it works and works very well.
No need for the clutch to.be the way it is. The MOCO has some idea it would be negative to allow the rider to adjust the levers...like other top of the line bikes. They must think we are all extra-long-fingered-apes that don't like precise control of the clutch engagement.
What about the poor women and guys who don't have the much-needed long-*** fingers to have the desired clutch engagement feel.
Motor cops hate the clutch engagement and I've modded I ore than one lever for them.
It's easy and looks absolutely stock!
Now no more bitching!

Motor cops hate the clutch engagement for lack of tight-turning, precise control and I've modded I more than one lever for them.

Now no more bitching! Spend the. Money for the adjustables or bend yours to desired effect.

That's not going to help that much.. Part of the problem with the clutch is that it has an initial grab that goes away. Keeping the Rs up seems to help. Does worse on first start.. Also the clutch clunks way worse than the TCs.

What I found was as soon as the engagement distance from the bar was close to what I was used with my cable bike (approx 1/2"-3/4" I instantly found the engagement sensitivity much more controllable.
Not just my opinion. As I mentioned the police hate the engagement beginning to be any further than 3/4" off the grip. Most like it 1/2" off the grip. This is simply because it is easier to control the engagement during precision riding and other tight-turning situations.
To each his own but I found my bliss and it was free.

I don't have any issues going from my 2010 cable VPC clutch with upgraded springs or the 2017. The friction zone is smaller but you get used to it. The shifting clunk in the lever I am not sure I will get used to. It's an odd feeling.
I put oberon levers on mine. Put the clutch engagement right where I want it. When my hand starts opening the bike starts moving. I dont believe it's a hand size issue, the factory engagement point just sucks.
