This is a good thread. People have broke their bikes in every which way and they all swear by them. When I was riding BMW's the dealer always said before the test ride, "Ride it like you stole it." Never had issues later. Lost track of the new cars I've bought since my 1st new car in '73. The only concession I ever made breaking them in was to very the speed for the 1st 100 miles. Never had engine issues. (Well, not counting my 1st new car, "73 Vega at 44,000. I think I got more miles than most people on that engine). My dad always told me to break in a new engine like I'm going to drive it. He always did give good advice.

that's stupid advice..there's more to break in than engine..brakes and tires.. need to be cautious for at least 50-100 miles before tearing it up out there..and I make sure they check the tire pressure in front of me before I go..trust, but verify..I've seen enough lackadaisical stuff out there to know better than to bet my safety on others..guy I know wiped out and ended in the hospital injured seriously on the way to work..had new tires just put on and they put 50 psi in front instead of the 40 it should have been...washed out in a turn

Which brings up a valid concern: do you trust your predelivery tech? I don't. Any time I buy something new I assume nothing. Check important torque points, pressures, and lube fills. Trust no one.

Not sure if you're talking about the BMW Dealer, my dad, or me. I'll just be offended by your response for all of us. You have a nice day. Maybe take a ride.

my point exactly..even more so when riding..I am OCD about making eye contact and looking at motorists wheels for movement...too damn many close calls..idiots are everywhere

since this was the only part of your story I highlighted..."When I was riding BMW's the dealer always said before the test ride, "Ride it like you stole it." ..common sense needs to prevail...you and your dad's comfort levels are your own choice

Sorry man, I didn't pickup on that. I dealt with them for over 20 years. Good folk and a solid dealership. They know their product. Have a nice day

I don't built the engines but I work on them. And all kinds of machinery.
And until I die, I will be saying: if someone says break-in (period) is not required, knows *****.
And I do not mean racing engines.

If you listen to the net . Some try to push breaking them in on the dyno. Most likely don't do the bike any good but helps pay off the dyno machine and bar tab. Then they have the 30-60 -90 and 4 different version of that. Just follow owners manual. That 500 miles is over in no time.
