Hard to believe you'd be bogging at 2500 rpms. I always shift around that range no matter what gear. But I dont ride in 6th unless I'm doing highways speeds in excess of 55 mph.
When I did my stage one, I did notice valve train noise more significantly. Talked to a local indy shop and they assured me that was normal since i opened up the air intake. It seems to have calmed down, but that could be attributed to cooler temps and me trying to specifically buy better gas.
As other's said. I'd take it back and have them fix under warranty. Dont spend money on a pv tuner that will possibly void that warranty.
My m8 has a pinging noise/detonation in 5 and 6 gear around 3k rpms when i open up the throttle pretty good.
Here is your problem.
At that gear and RPM you are cruising between 60-65 in 5th gear and about 75 in 6th gear.
I get the same issue stock when Im around that gear and rpm. Just WOT it is a bad idea it wont make it any faster and with the Throttle body wide open all that air that is getting sucked in is causing it to ping.
I called the dealer and was told to gradually open the throttle at that point and doing WOT is not a good idea.
No pinging, just nice pull opening the throttle at 2500 in 6th. I'd say you shouldn't spend any money on that till the dealer acknowledges something's not right and fixes it.
I think a lot of people think they're hearing pinging when they're really hearing valve train noise. I could be wrong, tho.
When I had a 103, I went to Fuel Moto for a 107. I could swear the 103 would ping like a mother father at 2700-3200 especially under load. I heard it quite frequently.
When they got the jugs off and looked at the pistons, Fuel Moto said no evidence of pinging, but likely what I was hearing was valve train noise.
You can get a pinging noise from the fuel injector system also try some better fuel i know bad or not up to standard fuels will make a difference, if that doesn’t work take it back to your dealer.
I fell for that on my Ultra Limited 103. And after $2300.00 or so the damn thing still pinged. And it was not valve noise. After Two years and 23K miles I traded it for the 114 M8 which hasn’t shown signs of pinging in the first 6300 miles. Keeping it stock as to not break what’s running great. OP I agree you shouldn’t throw good money after bad.
For the dealer to suggest going stage one to eliminate it is nuts. Other than running on low octane and under heavy loads it shouldn't do it for any length of time, period.
I've been waiting for someone who I assume has more mechanical abilities than me to say what I was thinking. How is upgrading going to fix a possible problem? Sounds like he is just trying to sell you something and shut you up.
Downshift if your gonna grab a handful, these pigs are way too heavy and over geared in the primary to play rocket man on the freeway and not expect issues. And yes it really is that simple.
My buddy was going nuts with his new 2018 M8 pinging. Finally the dealer called Harley and they said pull the gas tank and see if the spark plugs are connected. Sure enough they were never connected. 4 new plugs all connected and the bike runs great !!!!
