Default Grooves on right side axle spacer?

Does the orientation of the grooves on the right side axle spacer make any difference? The service manual for my 2017 RGS doesn't specify which side the grooves are supposed to be on (toward the fork or toward the wheel). I've examined the spacer and it appears to be the same measurements on both sides. So it would seem that it doesn't make a difference. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Be sure that grooves on external spacer, or index pin on rear
wheel speed sensor (if ABS equipped), are on the outboard
side.

I haven't messed with the rear wheel yet. But the speed sensor is on the left side and it's installed correctly. I just don't see a reason for the grooves to be in or out on the right side spacer. Unless there's some sort of sensor in that spacer.

I have seen these grooves on certain Harley's and on older ones was a bevel in one bore side and also a standard out on the clamp side. Older Harley's and in service manual. On that 2017, there is a reason. Is that service manual a Harley one. Surely, it's in there somewhere.

There was a thread, someone said they put the spacer in backwards and as soon as they started riding they could hear some wheel bearing noise coming from the rear and when entering a corner it got so bad they could feel it in the grips. Took it home, swapped it around and everything went away immediately.

I believe there is a slight chamfer on the spacer that sits on the wheel bearing, if installed backwards the spacer doesn't work. That's the best explanation I can give

Nope, the manual doesn't reference the grooves at all.

FWIW, I run the grooves to the outside, non ABS.

Does it actually say it? And what's the reason for the specific orientation?
