Interesting story of a great trip. If I'm not mistaken, the screws that hold the seat strap on are the same as the one holding the seat down. You could have taken the strap off and used one of the screws in your seat...

Taking bike in 2morrow to have them look things over with that engine oil usage. No appointments for 11 days!!!!! But they are sure they may be able to fit it into a cancellation spot sometimes next week. I dont want to add a qt. I want them to see it as Is. May be some time before I can give any updates. Theyll prob say everything looks good, but I want it dicumented and want them to check. Plus...I added a oil between my 1k-5k service.
Great update and glad things worked out well as it should. I took mine out west for 6000 miles in two weeks. Ran perfectly and never a worry.
Since you were doing a bunch of highway running, that oil is probably just in your air box. Kinda typical.
Just curious if the M8 has changed in the way you are supposed to check the oil? If not I would suggest checking it on the Jiffy stand like the manual says. Wondering if your use is due to overfilling?...........just asking.

manual doesnt say just jiffy stand....I have the owners manual and the service manual. But .....on jiffy stand it doesnt even register on the jiffy stand side of the stick. Those pictures I posted are upright checks. I just checked for the third time just now ...its going on the trailer as we speak and to them tomorrow. I may not get it back for a week cuz its on standby .....apts are full. BTW I checked it when I got it back From the 5k service. It wasnt even 1/2 way up the stick. I posted that picture in the original post. That check was with 0 miles cuz I picked it up From HD on the trailer and brougt it straight home and did a hot check. Im not overly concerned at all. I just dont want to add a qt of oil. I want their eyes on it first.

good plan to get it documented, take a qt on long trips and don't worry about it..these are known to consume oil..a few reports here state they haven't for them, but ours and others fluctuate based on how hard they're ridden at times..wife and I split a quart on our 2000 mile Glacier trip last July and we ran them hard..and we both have fan assisted oil coolers so oil temps remain in check so consumption isn't due to volatility...sometimes we ride around locally many times out and the oil level stays put..my 2015 and a friend's 16 Rushmore never used any oil..but those engines were at the end of a 15 year maturity cycle. Also agree with you 100% that Stage 1 is all that's 'needed', anything beyond that is a want..we have some heavy weight Chapter couples we have ridden with for years and 10's of thousands of miles on long trips at all speeds who have stock bikes, Rushmores and prior, and they never have a problem with keeping up or ever talk about wanting or needing more power. for many they 'want' more power and don't mind paying for it which is understandable as well. Ride on and enjoy life on a Harley!
