Having read more problem threads than I want to, I will assume there really are several major design problems with the M8
Will HD ever really fix this?
Not happy about all this because I just bought mine.
Quit reading and ride your bike. IF you have a problem deal with it then. Many more bikes are being ridden problem free than those that are having problems.
Some time we have to question a lot of what we read i am on my second M8 had a Road Glide put 7000 miles on it just didnt like it, it need have the oil leaking into the primary problem. So i traded back for a Ultra Classic love this bike should have gotten this one the first. I have know issues at all with this motorcycle just leaving it stock its got plenty of power for me. The problems start when you start doing the stage upgrades owners with the big upgrades are the one experiencing major headaches. HD has been into the upgrades and make a lot of money doing so. But they them selfs got caught with there pants down with the M8 motor and caused the problems there in now buy selling inappropriate upgrades.
I do not think there are, "several major design problems" because the issues are not found on every bike. I personally think it's stacked up tolerances or production quality control issues, what have you...
Sucks for a few, but the majority of owners are happy and problem free.
I have had one "design problem" on my 2018 RGU: The clutch switch. It didn't fail, but there is an issue that causes some idle problems. The parts were replaced quickly under warranty.
Other than this, no problems.
Passing 6k miles.
Riding in triple digits today with the wife out to the coast and back. No worries.

Ride it and enjoy it! Chances are very good you won't have any problems. If you do take it to the dealer and get it fixed. That said, make sure you don't do something that will void your warranty. Even upgrades the dealer suggests could do this as not all dealers are aware that what they are suggesting is a warranty killer. I kept my warranty active until I was fairly certain I had a bike that wasn't problematic. I did have transmission oil transfer, but I fixed that.

With 580+ posts and having joined in 2010, I cant imagine you just bought the bike and were not aware of some of the possible issues, so I have to assume you made an informed decision in which case its a bit silly to be having a panic attack now, or else you weren't paying attention prior to buying it.

Which is it?
I did not read all the posts before deciding to buy. I did get a 4 year extended warranty, however.
I figure HD might have the design fixed by then.
Yeah you really just need to stop reading M8 thread or the touring thread its like depressing. I just bought a new to me M8 Road King yesterday and I love it and Im gonna ride it till falls apart (if ever). A good friend of mine has one and loves it and hasnt had any issues. My brother put the big bore kit in his and it sumped and it smoked the kit. Harley fixed it (and made it right I may add) and its been 6k since any issues. They are awesome! Good luck get out and ride!
