Anybody else smell oil when the EITMS is active at a stoplight? After about 5 or 10 seconds I can distinctly smell oil on my 2018 Road Glide Ultra..I can find any leaks or smoke or any signs of oil dripping or leaking anywhere. My brother also has a M8 in his 2018 street glide and says he smells oil under same circumstances. Normal or something to look into further?
I did not smell it when mine was active, but that does not prove anything.
Since the rear cylinder is just "pumping" when active the idea that you might smell oil does not seem far fetched.
When the engine is in EITMS operation, you may notice a difference in idle cadence. Additionally, there may be a unique exhaust odor. These are both considered to be normal conditions.
Enabling/Disabling EITMS
Yea...I read that in the manual as well. Lots of ambiguous descriptions in the manual on a variety of things. All I notice when EITMS kicks in is a rise in rpms to just under 1000 but have detected no smell. Maybe I just haven't idled it for long enough under calm conditions to detect it. I avoid stop and go traffic though whenever possible.
Don't forget the Transmission (primary vents to Xmsn) vent tube is right there at the base of the rear cylinder. That might be what you are smelling if you see no signs of leaks any where.
