Hi, thanks for the ad. Ive been looking for a forum about the oil consumption problem with the 107 M8 dual cooled engine. Mine has 7200 miles on it and has consumed 6 quarts of oil since the 1,000 mile oil change, soaround 1 quart every 1,033 miles. Has anyone else experienced this problem and how did it get fixed? Thanks.
I don’t have a twin cooled M8 but I haven’t had any issues but I’ve been told of it happening while I was at a new owners event by a new owner and the dealer said they have been known to use some oil, how much they didn’t specify
I'd say the OP motor has a problem. My 2018 FLTRU is hitting 7k miles any minute now. I just checked the oil after two thousand miles of flogging the bike two-up through triple digit SoCal temps. My motor has consumed maybe 2 oz of Syn3 in that 2k miles. I'm very pleased with my M8's oil consumption. My 2016 Ultra Classic went through a quart every 5k miles.
FWIW, since this has been a topic, I broke my new motor in carefully. First 50 miles never exceeded 3krpm. Next 450 miles never exceeded 3500 rpm, but doing as much hard acceleration and deceleration as possible within the range of idle to 3500 rpm. At 510 miles, I rode it hard from Santa Fe to LA.

My dealer said br8ng it in Friday. Sorry some of you havent heard about this problem but Im not joking and Im not full of it, so thanks for the smart remarks, but its real. Its happened four times, no blue smoke, no oil dripping, no oil on the back of the bike. My Ultra Classic never used oil between changes, but the M8 has used 6. And a $32,000 investment that you cant trust on vacation is no laughing matter.
I was told by the dealer servicing my m8, that it is both common and acceptable for our engine to consume 1 qt of oil per 1, 000 miles. Where it goes, who knows. Maybe some ends up in the filter or through the cat. He couldn't answer that. Carry extra oil. My stage 3 built 80 evo on a trike conversion burns a lot less. Go figure.
