2017 FLHTK 2 questions.
1) Should a fan or water pump fail, (which has not happened) does it throw a code? I suspect there is no code for such a failure until a temp sensor trips. Just curious what indication the operator will get when the water pump fails.
2) When I turn off the bike and the fans keep running does the water pump stay on as well? If no would the water pump stay on if I left the key on while the fans were still operating?
The answer as to whether the pump can run when the engine is off is found on page 6-3 of the shop manual. I'm quoting only the pertinent sentences:
"The (coolant) pump will not run until the engine is started, then runs continually while the engine is running."
"If the fans are running when the engine is stopped, the fans and pump will continue to run until coolant is at a certain temperature or for a predetermined length of time, whichever occurs first."
I'm not sure about the error codes.

Thank you, I should get a shop manual. That response was exactly what I was looking for.
For the others that have had a water pump fail, how did you know? I assume a code or warning indicator will show up. Just wondering.
When pump went out on my 15 CVO Road glide I got a check engine light and a red temp light at same time.I rode mine home about 80 miles but took it easy cause I could tell it was a lot hotter than normal.
