A good friend is on a trip on their new 2018 Limited with 5,000 miles, from MO to the west coast. Yesterday their check engine light came on, and they immediately called the Harley shop in Reno, Nv where they were to stop today for a service call anyway. They were told it was not an issue, and being they were close decided to continue. They got the bike to the dealer at 7 this morning, and the service commenced, when they went to pick her up a few hours later this is what they were told-
It has what they call a rich cylinder .... giving it too much gas ... the 2018 are now known for this .... changed the oil ... getting her ready to go ...
Truth or Lie. I'm asking because I'm considering an upgrade myself, and I'm also concerned for them on the remainder or there trip?
My 17 kept throwing a lean cylinder code when new, caused no rideability issues. After a few trips to dealer and dicking around with it they replaced the O2 sensor. Could be whats goin on with your friends bike, only its a rich code. If the bike is running fine, I would not worry about it on the remainder of their trip, if its running poorly they need to have it checked out further asap. I call BS on the 2018 being known for this!
I don't know about the rich mixture but I can tell you one thing for sure, Reno HD's service Dept is about the worst when it comes to honesty and fixing minor issues on time. My son has been fighting them for a year and finally went to Carson City, he tells me it's a night and day difference. Carson City HD is under new ownership and their working hard to gain customer loyalty. If your friend has any issues, Carson City is a just about 20 mins away.
We rode by that Carson City dealer last week on our way home. The place is huge. Headed to Carson to stay for the Reno Bike extravaganza. Going to check out that Carson dealer. I heard they have a big celebration there for that weekend.
