I don't think younger guys (I'm 66) can understand what it's like when you get to the point in your life you can see the end of your riding days. When I retired, about 1 1/2 years ago, I bought a new '17 SGS. It may be the last bike I own.
Congrats, you will love the Shark nose, and not having the extra weight on the bars, passing trucks at 70-90 mph with crosswinds will bring the biggest smiles, it has no effect on handling.
So I am a long time Metric rider who came over to the other side almost two years ago and bought a beautiful SGS (16) when I looked around and I had knowone to ride with. I couldnt decide between a SG and RG and in the end went with the lighter bike (Im not getting any younger and I found a full touring bike roo much). So while my SGS is a great bike it just didnt do it for me. Every time I saw a RG I would curse myself for not buying one I.e. when I came back from a trip . I love green bikes so when the 19 Kinetic Green RG came out I said **** it I want one. I hate trading so soon but I figure no use keeping a bike Im not in love with which is coming up on tires, battery out of warranty etc. just hate doing the reach around so soon. Am I nuts? I usually keep my bikes for years but Im 64 now, coming off a heart attack and how much longer do I have to ride? May as well ride something I want. Long story short I am picking up my new Green RG tomorrow and am pumped!
Sounds like a solid plan. Go for it and enjoy every minute riding the bike you really want. You earned it!!

That's it right there! We're only here once. There won't be any buyer's remorse this time.... just miles and smiles. Congrats and enjoy.
