Default Roçker Box Covers

For those that have done it, how hard is it to get the covers off the Rocker Boxes with regards to the oil cooler lines? Are they the type that once disturbed the will always leak? I plan on new O-Rings for the oil lines.

LOL, I’m a Ford Senior Master Technician, but scared to death to touch my bike. I’ll take apart a truck engine but heaven forbid I mess up my bike

I have not done this yet but I will. There is a video on You Tube of a guy who did it and there are two bolts on the rear cylinder rocker covers that you can't get your torque wrench on. Other than that I think you should be able to handle that task easily.

Yeah, I watched that video, I have tools that will get to those bolts, I was just concerned with creating a problem with the oil cooler lines by disturbing them

I have not seen any posts or threads about it so it's probably a non issue.

Thanks man, I was asking because I think I’m going to upgrade my cam, I just read your thread about the RS468, that is one of the cams on my short list

i know I can do adjustable pushrods and save some hassle but I’m not sure about them, seems like something else to go wrong. I was thinking about just reusing my stock pushrods

I am going back to solid push rods when I do the big bore kit and save the adjustable rods for another day. For just a cam swap the adjustable rods are a time saver.

I’ve pulled my motor apart a couple of times already, once to go to 117” last winter and 124” this winter and the oil lines are a little bit of a pain but not too bad. I sure wouldn’t pull the covers to do a cam change though. I’ve been running adjustable pushrods for 30 years in every bike I’ve owned and never had an issue.

If you're going to do the job yourself you'll save the cost of the adjustable pushrods, is it worth it, that's your call. I did it that way & it is a pain & takes several hours more, if you know what you're doing, & as a tech you should, just follow the instruction & you'll be fine. There are probably hundreds of thousands of adjustables out there without problems, can it happen, yes but very rarely. As far as problems with leaking just install new o-rings & you should be good, I have about 23K on mine & no leaks. It's up to you, save time or save money, either way you shouldn't have any worries.

Thanks guys, I bought the service manual and have been studying it. I’ve also watched the cam install videos by Fat Head Cycles. That’s when I decided to do a cam, when I saw how easy it was.
