Well that was a fun 1k miles. Got on the Victorian engineered King this morning to do a 90 mile work commute. Around 20 miles in it started acting like a Harley. Out of the blue it started gurgling, sputtering, going flat off idle. Think it's ate a plastic intake manifold. In a few I'm going out in the heat to troubleshoot the modern antique. I went by a local dealer to pick up intake manifold gaskets. I have a spare plastic intake I got from a gent when I bought his take offs from a stage 4 upgrade. So I will see what the haps are.
I went out and cracked open the King. Started with the aerosol spray test. Sure enough manifold issue. Pulled the unit out and honestly I can't even see the issue with it but can feel it in my hands. And the o-rings look good. Put in the part I have from a 2018 Sport Glide with new o-rings and it's back with a very slight decel pop here and there. I will run a auto tune on it tomorrow. The massive popping and 3-d audio feedback along with random dead spots and burbling and gurgling are gone.
There is an aluminum replacement manifold from HPI, I believe. Has the bike been tuned?
Yeah I know there are alum. options out there. but from what I have seen in my research none are sized like the 107 oem unit. There all bigger bore for larger cylinders. And I don't want to have to do a real dyno tune. Just more good money after bad. I spoke with a aftermarket supplier and builder i trust that told me the rumor is HD is bringing out a upgraded hybrid alum and plastic manifold for the issue. But my HD dealer could not or would not confirm that but the service manager is going to check with a buddy at the factory and see if there is any traction with it. But ,,, honestly I don't see that being a fix. Just another bandaid at best. Be good or bad at it Deuce
With a bit of a heavy heart. The King sumped this morning at 7:00 am cst. A very favorable deal has been made with my dealer for both of us. As of tomorrow I will be on a Wing, Blue 2018 Touring Manual. Dealer will come and pick the bike and myself up and life will move on less Harley.
I will miss the community. But not the MoCo and historic junk...
I was gonna say... Give him a week or two, hell be hating on it in no time.
At 200 miles the King was already showing it's future. The engine issues were showing themselves. 300 miles and the Wing is not showing any issues. I know I can get on Wing this morning and it will not transfer or sump. Or play any other victorian engineering games.
Congrats on the new goldwing. My dad has a 18 wing DCT tour and loves it. I've logged some miles on it and it is an amazing machine. I am going to be talking to some local dealers and try to work a deal on a 6MT wing to sit alongside my street glide as well.
