So MTbigG what if our boy here uses some octane booter(booster) for the now and see if that noise goes away that would give him at least a reference if it goes away and if it doesn't it might be harmonics or a faulty knock sensor? Keeps him rolling right.
Its under warranty, why not have the dealer take a look...all due respect to Agoober, but adding octane booster could mask a problem if there is one and if only a rattle then you are off and running...

Yes go to the dealer for sure yes first everytime .But this fellow might get the "they all do that" or not we don't know we can't replicate that come back in X miles. What we do know is he can ride around this issue for the now and it's only doing it under heavy load so he can ride around that issue with a single tank of booster he can come back and tell what happened ,the bike will continue to run in and will probably cure itself in time ,with the booter it's much less likely to ping,if he has greater ranges of no pinging or perceived non pinging and understands to ride it safely we could be good here. Yea it may need a new knock sensor or two but some of these have not had the spark leads seated and or the knock sensors goofed. You're right go to the dealer first,if they bring no joy move forwards another way. He could run it hard then stop and see if there's silver collected at the tip of the plug ,if there is take a picture and go to the shop, then the Digital scanner should tell you if it's in the ranges to run well or no or if somethings needs fixing/replacement. I doubt if they'll scan it just turning up but they might if you have a picture of a plug showing detonation..
Mine is doing the same. I have a 2019 street glide special. If I am in lets say 3rd gear and am slowing and the rpms get to about 1500 or so, pull in clutch and roll on throttle to bring rpms up to match my downshift, about 20% of the time the motor has a loud spark knock. I can feel it up the shifter into my leg. Its had several tanks of premium from different stations run through it. Its been at dealer for weeks and first they said it was all the responses above, throttle plate etc. but its not. Once I got them to hear it (because if you idle it and kinda lightly snap the throttle, it will do it) they then found the intake manifoldwarped. They replaced that but its still doing it. Now of course they are fumbling with they cant hear it anymore and its a characteristic of the bike. Bullshit! Its 100% spark detonation like the timing advances too quickly. Ill be contacting Harley directly shortly here.
Adding my 2017 Road Glide Special and 2019 Ultra Classic (both stock) to the list. They both have the “pinging” issue as the OP described and I use 91-93 octane. I have had to use 87 octane without any additional “pinging” although you could tell performance was a tad diminished. Looks like “they all do that” this time😎
I had a Fuelmoto cam kit (Wood-22x etc) installed over the winter and after riding it this Spring I've noticed no pinging whatsoever, and it would occasionally before. Throttle response is crisp and the bike pulls great. I think that the issue is just the nature of the beast, in stock form anyways... Dutchy
In my humble opinion they tuned the bike to run on 92 unleaded. And then they depend upon the antiknock to retard the spark and reduce pre-ignition when lower quality gas is run.
run the best highest octane gas you can find, and then Toss in some Lucas octane boost atb1oz. Per gallon. Not that this is the solution, but it will prove the theory.
no pinging whatsoever for both my M8s owned in nearly 50,000 miles combined, tunes always spot on..same with lack of engine noises, been very impressed with these
