Default Question about M8 power

I have an '07 RoadKing & been wanting a Softail for awhile. Did NOT like the M8 Softies when they first came out, but they are starting to grow on me. It is possible that I may purchase one sometime in the next year or 2. I know certain Softies are available with either the 107 or 144 CI motor. Problem is, all of the Softails I am interested in (Deluxe,Low Rider, & Slim) in have the 107, & I would really like the 114.
So, I was speaking to salesman at the dealership this weekend & he mentioned that the 107 had more torque on the very low end than the 114,but the 114 will pass it after 35MPH. What I am primarily interested in is "off-the-line" torque; ease of clutching away from a dead stop. Has anyone compared the 2 at the same time, or does anyone know what the power difference is between the 2 motors? If it hasta be the 114, I wouldn't be opposed to a Heritage, but then a bar swap would be in order for me, which is why I would prefer a Deluxe.

I traded my 2013 CVO Road King for a 2018 Fat Boy 114 with only a bit over 200 miles on her. The PO changed his mind about riding and just wanted to unload the bike and get out of the payments. The deal was right for me so after the test ride I was more than ready to trade in my Road King (PO's bike was on consignment at my local HD Dealer).. While I did not ride a 107 I was more impressed with the total package, looks, handling, feel of the M8 vs. not just focusing on whether it was a 107 or a 114. I will say the seat is designed to keep you comfortable for the test ride and not much longer so I am planning on a new seat. In my case leaning towards a Saddlemen Step-Up.

According to Harleys web site they list the Delux with a 107 at 109 ft-lbs of torque. https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...es/deluxe.html They list the Fat Boy 114 at 119 ft-lbs of torque. https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...s/fat-boy.html

According to this article from Ultimate Motorcycling https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/201...lace-twin-cam/

"Harley says the engines make 10% more torque than the previous versions, but the factory did not release horsepower numbers. According to the EPA release, though, the new 107 produces 92.53 horsepower (69kw) @ 5020 rpm, and the 114 produces 100.57 horsepower (75kw) @ 5020 rpm for the 114."

I believe that if you ride the new Softail you will like it

Dickey, I did an extensive test ride on a Heritage with a 114, almost bought it until I was offered a great deal on the Street Glide with a 107 that I ended up buying. Personally I think the salesman is BS'ing about the 107 having better low-end torque than the 114, but the torque of either engine allows you to easily take off from a dead stop with minimal revs. In real-world riding situations there isn't a ton of difference between the two engines.

Did I hear 114 is more susceptible to sumping? I know it's much more prone to putting a larger dent in the wallet.
Im very impressed with my 107 right out of the box.

The 107 will do just fine unless you will be entering the biggest dick contest. The M8 bikes you will enjoy.

For whatever reason the Softail's aren't sumping. I really like my 114 Heritage. I never rode a 107 but I can't imagine there's is much difference.

I test road a Heritage Softail with the 114 on the way out, the sales guy took a RK with the 107. We switched and I took the RK back. Honestly I did not notice much difference in power but the bikes were certainly different. I preferred the RK but either one would do the trick.

my observations are the most noticeable difference is the 114 has better roll on power in the taller gear and doesn't run out of breath like my 107 did, especially up hills in higher gears when pouring the coals to them

Considered the Low Rider S? It's a tricked out Low Rider that has the 114.

And the salesman is lying to you to get a sale. The 114 is stronger than the 107 across the board. The 107 is a fine engine; the 114 is about 10% more power and torque. Will you feel the difference? Maybe, maybe not, some folks can't tell.
