I am so anti Kuryakyn, because I know as soon as I install it, the POS is going to fail in some way.
Anybody have a lead on a simple, black hyme joint set up for the newer baggers?
Thanks!
try performance machine. They make awesome accessories.

I got a billet chromed shift linkage for $ 20.00 including tax off fleabay. It has the hiem joints.Made in China. I suspect it's the same factory HD's $149.00 linkage is made in. But it dosnt have the cool HD packaging.

I agree, that the link rod with ball joints looks cheap on an otherwise outstanding motorcycle. But is it really cheap? I've put almost 70k miles on two Harleys with the oem linkage and never had a single problem with it.

I take a different view: The cheap pot-metal look is a nod to the industrial, transportation-based early motorcycles of the 20th century. I know of and have carefully inspected many RUNNING examples of 1930's era Harleys. You see lots of pot metal on these bikes. Very little attempt was made to filly them up with chrome doo dads and buffoonery. They were working machines that did their thing in the dirt and mud. While most of us like the chrome look of a modern Harley, some of us love the look of a workhorse Harley from the days when Harleys weren't toys, but actual tools used to help win wars.

I believe this "issue" is a probably a result of a few people being hard on the rear shifter - boot down hard etc.

I too have never had an issue with the OEM over multiple bikes and major miles, but yeah, we've heard of them over the years, and the heim joint version really is better.

We were referring to the Kury parts. I know some of you love and defend Kuryakyn, and that is fine, it is just not for me. The few times I made the mistake, and purchased their "tame" looking parts (didn't have flames, skulls, or some celtic twist ****) they failed in some fashion, in short order. Just really wanted to avoid it.

For the record, the HD black one that MJ listed is the one I ordered from Surdyke

Is your linkage installed correctly? I thought the front heim joint goes behind the front lever like this.

According to Harley mine is correct and yours isn’t. Here is the picture directly off of Harley’s parts website. The bar runs in front of both levers?

well I put my black one on behind the arm, same as my wife's CVO chrome one came straight from the factory..I think the straighter they are from one end to the other makes the most sense..I bet they attach it wrong and take a picture for the Online Store to display what the entire rod looks like
