2019 FLHX mods
Here is a collection of modifications I made to my bike since buying it new in April 2019
There is absolutely nothing earth shattering, and I promise that no tools were hurt in the process of making this thread (at least so far)
HD Stage2 installed at 1k service a month after buying the bike.
Bike sumped due to broken oil pump seal and dealer offered free labor on installation of Stage2 plus discount on the parts. I picked Stage 2 torque with street cannons, SEPST, HD High flow AC.
The tech also mentioned that transfer occurred between trans and primary and they will be installing the primary vent kit also.
That was great, the 2 biggest issues with M8 engines caught early and fixed under warranty.I just wish the new 8 lobe oil pump was available at the time I would have had them install it.
Stage2 truly woke up the bike. I had to do a few auto-tuning sessions with SEPST to really get the bike to run smooth. Its all HD because of warranty reason, especially right after having issues with sumping and transfer. But somehow, I see a 128CI upgrade in the future and I will most likely buy the HD 128CI kit.
I might add the fan assisted oil cooler too or wait until I upgrade to 128CI since the cooler is part of the kit
Headlight:
I really like the look of the stock headlight and installed LED bulbs instead of a daymaker.
Cost was $20 for both low and high beam bulbs. Very bright and light pattern stays same as stock.
Turn signals:
Well, Custom Dynamics is an obvious choice and superb quality.
Also, install saddle bag signals with sequential light AKA Cylon turn signals
Buffeting management:
For reference I am 510 180 lean and I have a half helmet.
I dont mind a lot of air flow. I just dont like it when my glasses and helmet shake/vibrate like crazy.
HD fangs really make a difference, they clean up the air turbulence. But not everyone like the look of them . I do like the chrome fangs with black bike.
I also have hard lowers which I only used last winter in New England. Out here in Southern California they are not needed.
Inner fairing and speaker covers
I just did not like the look of the matte inner fairing with vivid black bike. It made the cockpit look cheap. Same with the speaker covers made of felt or whatever.
I replaced the inner fairing with a gloss black one and added stage1 audio.
Bought both of the used for under $350 total (Way worth it) Bought them here on the forum
Shocks and seat:
Replaced stock 12 shocks which were super stiff with 13 takeoffs from new Ultra Limited
13 shocks were bought on the forum also.
The 13 shocks are way way way better than the 12 especially on bad roads/highways.
I figured I would first try the longer HD shocks first and if the ride was still too harsh, I would go after market. I am satisfied with the 13 shocks and that is in part also because I have a 2019 FLHX and rear wheel is 16 instead of 18 on the FLHX and the CVO SG. The extra rubber does help a lot. If you have a CVO or FLHXS or 2020 FLHX you might want to just get aftermarket 13 shocks.
I find the stock seat adequate for my riding (3-4 hours at a time) but dont really like the look
So I bought the HD low profile diamond stiched new from HD dealership. I will get the pillion eventually.
Very comfortable seat which is surprising as it is more comfortable than the stock seat. And it fits great with no gaps on the tank and no weird gap on the fender
