Default Lesson learned

I am relating this not for the guys who have "been there, done that..." but for those like me who like to do their own ****, but maybe have never done it before.

I recently did my own Cam job and had an unbelievable difficult time getting the pushrod tube clips back in. Then had a massive oil leak flowing down the side of my motor.
I cleaned things up and popped one of the clips back off and found a piece of o-ring so I stopped and ordered a whole new set.
3 weeks later, (it is February in Missouri) I got around to getting back into it.
I removed the rear pushrods, greased up the o-rings, set the pushrods, and was suprised that the clips popped right in... then the fronts...

long story short, I had cut every single upper o-ring... I have filed this under "lessons learned"

1. Grease those o-rings up

2. Pumped up lifters feel better when your adjusting, giving you more confidence fing zero lash

3. Yes, a screwdriver is all you need to pop those clips in

4. If you opt to use a little thread locker on that jam nut, removing the pushrods is going to be a chore

5. DON'T FORCE IT... there is probably a reason

Well luckily nothing catastrophic happened. I've watched several different videos multiple times getting ready to do mine. Glad everything worked out in the end.

On your upper O-ring they will typically stay stuck into the head itself. Do not pull them out unless you are going to replace them. When extending the pushrod tubes back up feel the tube as it goes into the O-ring as you may have to wiggle the tube slightly to get it into the center of the O-ring. If you look at the inner tube you will see the end of it has a step ledge on it for the end of the tube to go in the center of the O-ring and then a ledge to squeeze it in place. The clip should only be about 1/4" or less longer when you go to install them. If they are hard and too long then you do not have the inner tube into the O-ring correctly. Once you feel one go in place your will find it really easy after your first one.

That would have been me! I dropped it off at the dealer and let them do it. Besides I've learned enough lessons already, no need learning more! LOL

Installed Woods cam in my 2020 RGL couple weeks ago. Luckily I had read here several had problems with pushrod tubes leaking from top. A little extra care and paying attention - no leaks! Like most things, the job itself was not difficult, only getting over the apprehension of doing something new for the first time.

Did get to ride it a couple days before the arrival of arctic deep freeze. New bike, very glad I voided my warranty!
