Default Sudden, unintended acceleration

Hello forum readers, I have started to develop an issue of sudden, unintended acceleration. It seems to happen mainly in the first 5 minutes of riding and then goes away. Usually in first gear and is very scary.

I have done quite a few things to the bike but nothing recently. I will list below what I have done.

2019 Electra Glide Standard (FLHT)

Original owner

About 20,000 miles

Also, I want to mention it is not throwing any trouble codes.

Added radio and amp

Installed 12 inch KST Bison Baggers handlebars

Arlen Ness big sucker breather

Vance and Hines Power Duals head pipe

Vance and Hines FP3 tuner

When I installed the new bars, I had a hell of a time running the wires. Living in California I didn’t figure that I would need the heated grips so I cut off the plug for that on the throttle side. I also had to add wire extensions.

Here could be a clue. When the bike is cold and is starting to idle down to about 1000 RPMs if I move the handlebars back and forth, the RPMs will go up a few hundred RPMs.

I can’t think of anything else that I can tell you that would help troubleshoot this issue.

Did you wrap the end of the wire below the plug that you cut off? Is anything stretched so tight that you might have stripped insulation from a wire as it was being pulled around a corner of the bars or below?
As an aside, do you ride with a backrest? After first getting my FB and inadvertently twisting the throttle after hitting bumps at slow speeds and nearly sliding off the seat I started using a backrest. Not that this has anything to do with your problem, but until you get it figured out it might help you to stay put on the seat if the bike decides to jump ahead.

I did not wrap the wire for the heated grips that I cut. I figured that since there is no current going through those wires and they are separated from the throttle wires it wouldn't matter. I will be pulling the fairing off this weekend to inspect the wires so I might as well wrap those while I am in there. I do have a riders backrest to keep my butt in the saddle.

The electrical systems on these bikes is beyond my experiences as a backyard mechanic/bolter on of parts. I recall reading here that the ECM(?) is essentially balanced electrically, perhaps through a very specific amount of resistance, and the shortening or lengthening the wiring can cause issues. I'm sure someone with more knowledge, (as in any), will be along shortly to help you out.

As a test go back to stock tuning and see if it still does it. Then if it does remove the grip from the right hand side and make sure the Twist Grip sensor fit properly into the new handle bars. It should not bind on the way in or anything like that. Make sure you can freely move the wires in the bars from both ends.

Well, I have a good reference point to start at now. Pulling back into the parking lot at work after lunch, check engine light came on and went into limp mode. Got trouble codes of P150 and P2138. So either I stripped a wire when I installed my bars or my twist grip sensor went out.

I will let you know what I found out.

Did you do anything to the TBW harness when you extended wiring ? Those bars may have peeled some insulation off a wire or 2 in your TBW harness when you pulled them through the bars , it's taken till now for them to move and ground out on the bars , that's the harness I would inspect vary closely.

I did add an extension harness. But that portion is not in the bars. It in the fairing. I must have scraped off some of the insulation of the wires on the portion inside the bars. I am picking up a new TGS today and replacing. I don't want tp just rig it by taping up the spot that is bare.
