Default case bore diameter and rod dimensions?

In a month or so I'm going to put a FM 124 kit on my '21 FLH. I recently did a similar job on my FXR and while installing the pistons the wrist pin clip went flying into oblivion. I had the bore stuffed with rags and I heard the clip go "ping" somewhere off in the distance, and eventually found it way the F on the other side of the garage. But when it happened I said to my self that the next time I did this I'd have those slick plastic bore covers that seal the case and hold the piston upright nicely. So since I have a 3D printer and nothing else to do with my free time, I'm going to make a set.

To do it, I'll need the diameter of the case bore and if possible the measurement of the rod at its highest point of extension from the case. I can ballpark the rod opening from the photo below if I have to.

Anyone know this? I can't seem to find schematics anywhere.

This is my plan. And yes I know I can just buy it, but half the fun of 3D printers is making a working solution...

Damn, that's a great idea! Might as well make a set for the lifter blocks too! I see a new side bussiness in the future for you! I'll take a set!

Make the diameter the same as the OD of your stock M8 cylinder spigot- that way it'll fit every M8 case ever made.

That's what I'm asking. What the number (diameter) is...

I just measured a 117 take off cylinder, same spigot OD as the 107 take off cylinder @ 4.3545"

Yep they should all be the same. I have a mock up ready to go in this silly freeware cad design app, and once I dial in the specifics I'll get one printed and post back here.

Thanks very much!

Edit: I’m going to guesstimate a 1x1.75” rectangle opening for the rods. Should be close enough.

Here's what 20 min of my simpleton-level cad design work and 4 hours of 3d print time came up with.

Since I have no idea what the rod dimensions are I made the port larger then what it probably needs. Once I get an actual measurement I'll make a tighter "production" set. All I need is a couple 1/4" diameter Delrin (or something) rods to make pins to put them together.

While this is a good idea, I would suggest that form the pieces so that the piston can sit on the part to make it stable as you work the piston ring into the cylinder. While this is not a vary good picture, I use a simple U shaped piece of aluminum with a screw stuck in the bottom to keep it from sliding off the surface.. A U shape in your case might be better. Make the round part one piece and open on one end. If you want to stay 2 piece make the angled so the piston can sit on the cover or even make the cover taller..

Lowbrow customs has them for $45. I’m not going into mass production. At 2hrs print each, that’s what, $22.50/hr? You make more managing a McDonalds lol.
