"Performance compensator replacement spring. Thicker, stronger and an increased bevel over stock. Features a steeper bevel that provides more preload and pressure on the spring pack and compensator. This helps diminish excessive compensator travel in turn reducing harmonics, eases start up and gives a more responsive feel at lower engine RPMs.
Replaces the first, outer most spring in OEM pack #83936-09A. Made in USA"
I'm getting the knock at shutdown. Debating on buying a set of shims, a used set of comp springs for the small one to double up, or this.
Worth a shot if the compensator doesn't need to be replaced. I did use the Evolution industries (links below the pic) spring pack once. However, during disassembly I found a very worn (early) Cycle Rama comp ramp, so the owner opted to also use the evolution industries comp ramp AND replace the compensator. For the money spent this Baker Compensator Sprocket Milwaukee-8 (which I haven't had the opportunity to use yet) could have been an option.
I read posts saying the Baker harmonic balancer isn't sufficient for the big torque pulses of a V-twin, and gets worse the bigger the build (higher the torque).
You might want to search the Forum for those posts.
I'm one of those that installed the Cycle Rama ramp. I plan to inspect it when I put the bike to bed for winter. If mine is worn, I'll put the EVO in with their stronger spring pack. Cycle Rama really gave themselves a black eye with insufficiently hardened surface. I chose them because of their high strength alloy steel, presuming they knew how to surface harden correctly. Money and time down the drain from a poor quality vendor.

I'd never looked for anyone having issues with the Baker, so that's good to know.
I think if I were to replace my 30t comp eliminator sprocket, I'd look into the Evolution race spring set and a Star Racing compensator ramp. They are made by Liberty Gears. They make the gear sets that can handle thousands of horsepower for a lot of race transmissions in the automotive world. I'm sure they are using some very good materials.

In the case of the worn Cycle Rama Ramp, it's not the material itself, (4140 alloy steel), but inadequate surface heat treating process. The material itself is plenty strong enough not to break. But the surface wasn't sufficiently hardened not to wear.
They know they have a problem and haven't reached out to any of us to assist in repair, AFAIK.

Not. Good.
I got screwed buying an early release Cycle Rama ramp that wasn’t properly surfaced hardened. I bought it directly from them but they wouldn’t even give any kind of a discount on a new one. Screw them!
Does anyone know when Cycle-Rama released their compensator ramp? When I last had my primary cover off I too noticed wear, just not as bad as pictured. Wes assured me it was ok, but I’m skeptical. Will continue to monitor.
