Bottom line is that the M8 oil temperatures are just fine in stock trim. Does adding an oil cooler hurt, NO, is it needed NO. Running rubber hoses and an Oil filter along the bottom of the frame is just an accident waiting to happen. Also one needs to remember that where ever you locate the oil cooler that very hot air is going to be coming off of it. The HD KOB race bikes are completely different as they cannot even go to one weekend event and run just one engine, just a fact. They typical go through 3 engines at each race weekend event, on each bike. The engines are pushed so hard, they just will not last long enough and one needs to remember that a Race is only 6 - 8 laps and the tracks are 2 - 4 miles long. So worst case a race itself is only ~35 miles total.

I’ve got a temp gauge coming in. I’ll report my oil temps when I ride again.

Today I got it out for the 25 mile ride to work with the temp dipstick.
temp outside was 72F, speed was 60 mph, 2-lane with some hills and curves.
It is supposed to get in low 90’s here this afternoon on the way back home. I will snap another pic then, see how much hotter it gets.

First morning reading.

On the 6th I went for a 100 mile ride, combining two lane and freeway driving at 75 mph, when we stopped for gas the OAT was in the mid 90's.
The oil temp was registering at 225,

The last thirty miles was 55 to 60 mph and the oil cooled down at bit:

It is my believe that an oil cooler will only benefit the health of your engine, and aid in it's longevity. YMMV.

Those are good temps. After today it’s supposed to get a bit hotter, and then I’ll get on the interstate (70-75mph) and see where it goes from there.

Same route, 50-60 mph (traffic) 94*F
Next is going to be 70-75 interstate travel and see how that reads.

Does anyone know how the OEM oil cooler and fan assist on a 135 compare with the DK or Ultracool setups?

People need to remember that too cool of oil is just as bad as too hot! The only way to get the moisture out of the engine oil is to cook it off and water boils at 212 F. So if you keep the oil to cool that never going to happen. With the temperatures your showing in your pictures there is no need for an additional cooler.

edit; I added the Ultra Cool Fan Assist oil cooler. I live in NM where temps regularly in the high 90’s and low 100’s. Adding any kind of oil cooler in these temps will only help. I want to protect my investment

Something that decreases in value is not an investment.
