Default Pikes Peak High Altitude 5 in 1

Just curious if anyone is going on the Pikes Peak Hog High Altitude 5-in-1? My first time riding this event was 2016, I think. Rode with one of the "road captains". Wont do that again just because they have to accommodate too many folks of varied skill and tank size, not to mention a group of 20+ is too many for my liking. 2017 I rode with a buddy, again in one of their large groups. He went down hard in Sturgis last year and no longer rides. Last time I went was 2019. Rode about half by myself and then caught up with a few other solo riders that had just happened to break where I was breaking so rode with them the rest of the way.

If anyone is going solo or in a small group, and not riding with the road captain, let me know. I'm staying in Estes Park, about 18 miles from the rides destination of Grand Lake, but that was the closest I could afford, and was still almost $200.

I don’t like group rides with people I don’t know.

I don't really either. If it is a small group, 2-5, I can deal, I just keep more space. I'm hoping by asking now, if anyone is interested in meeting up, we can perhaps get together a time or two before the event.

I've done rides w/ 10 or so, but it's with riders we all know, so the riding style is usually the same or close enough to not cause problems (sport touring riders). We all know the rules, hand signs, and what to do if something happens.

I haven't done that ride. Have you done the BMW 100,000ft ride? I've done that ride ~5 times over the years. They change the route and passes every year, or try to anyway. It's a go at your own pace, but you do have riders that want to "win" whatever it is. I just take my time, take pics, and enjoy the twisties.

I did ride up PP back in 2007 on my Wing when it was still a dirt road. I'll never forget the 2 BMW GS guys looking at me riding down when they saw me. Priceless!

That looks interesting, I wish there was a bit more info on their site about the passes and roads taken. My hesitation is that it mentions dual-sport roads. Been on plenty of dirt roads on this and previous street bikes, but not really the most enjoyable if they stretch too far or have lots of washboard. My RK does not handle those roads quite as well as my old XR 500.

PP was much more fun before the guard rails and pavement, kept some people off the road I suspect. I went up a few years ago, first time since they paved all the way to the top and it was packed.

IIRC, they have a DS route as well as a normal route. Here's a map I found of the 2005 ride, which I did.
