I hope this post hasn't been been posted to death, but here I go....
I'm planning a trip to Durango area in June then riding the San Juan Skyway, then riding to Farmington HD, then back to PHX. Anyone have any suggestions on what to see, do or stay along the way? My initial planning includes staying in a B&B in Durango, and in Cortez.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Will be my first long distance motorcycle trip.
I'd recommended a stop in Ouray, Colorado. Considered the Switzerland of the US of A.
Its along the San Juan Skyway so your not going out of your way to get there.
They also have hot springs there, nice place to stop for the night and recharge.
Outside of Cortez, stop and spend a few hours at the cliff dwellings. Pretty interesting.
Go through Cortez, and up over Mosquito Pass into Telluride. Second best roadway in CO.
Then shoot over to Ridgeway, and down 550 to Durango.Best roadway in CO. Take your time, stop a lot. Be sure to look behind you.
Stop or at least ride through the small towns along the way. Meaning, go down some of the side streets.
Durango is a tourist town. It's tough to find a good meal there. But I always stop at Cuckoos for broasted chicken. It's a little sports bar in the basement off the square, just up the hill and around the loop from the train depot.
Send a note to Billnourse...he lives just outside of Farmington and can probably give you some excellent advice on restaurants, lodging and rides through NW New Mexico. He and his bride ride through this country quite a bit.
Whiskers,
First of all, SWEET SWEET RIDE! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try and reach out to him. I have several months to plan, but since I am planning to go during High Season, don't want to risk not being able to find a room, so am trying to plan early.
