Struens,

Watch your *** on highway 6. Its one of the most deadly 2 lane highways in the country. Especially when there are people headed home on holiday weekends.

It is the absolute WORST by far of any road I have ever ridden as far as idiots playing nascar (leapfroggin up the highway) in my life. Nobody pays ANY attention to the double yellow line at all. Half of those idiots are towing boats, campers, etc... just the kind of people who should NOT be doing that crap. I saw a terrible accident on that road 3 years ago on Labor day weekend. A guy in a pickup towing a boat head-oned a small car. Killed the lady in the car and her baby, launched the boat 150 feet down the road.

Like I said, its worst when people are headed BACK on a holiday weekend, which you may not be doing.

BE CAREFULL!!!!

Would you suggest then that I stay on I-15 down into Salina and then take I-70 into Green River?&nbsp\\; It appears to be about 66 miles further by staying on the interstate into Salina and then Interstate into Green River.&nbsp\\; Seems there might be less safety issues vs going on the 2 lane hiway...........................Struens

I would take 15 to Scipio, then 50 to Salina, then on to Freemont Junction, then on to Green River. (can you look this route up on your maps/online?)

If you have a resource to confirm gas stops, and are willing to do the extra miles, then yes, I would recommend that route, even though I believe it will add some time onto your trip. But confirm gas stops and weather conditions in the Fishlake National Forrest. What Im telling you is from memory, and I sure as hell don't want to lead you astray.

But I know that myself personally, I will NEVER travel highway 6 down to price on a Holiday weekend again. Not after what I saw.

ww1flyingace,
&nbsp\\;
Thanks for the additional information.&nbsp\\; I will check out the route you spoke about into Scipio and then on into Salina to Freemont and in.&nbsp\\; Thanks for the information on Hiway 6.&nbsp\\; I will be on the road after the 4th of July, but still seems like a good thing to do "take another route for safety's sake"........................Struens

Ok, A bit more info. I just spoke with one of the guys I was with on that trip. I had concerns about fuel stops for you going that route.

But he reminded me of something. When We encountered the wreck, we were about 10 miles out of Green River headed to Price. We were going to go back and cut across 70 to avoid the wreck, but about 10 miles down that route we were seeing signs about no gas stops for 70 miles or so. None of us had enough gas, BUT that was because we had NOT fueled up in Green River, as we were going to originally stop in Price instead. So we went back to Green river and gassed up, but by that time the wreck had cleared and we went up highway 6 as planned, where we encountered MORE god awful idiots on the road.

So I had some concern about YOUR fuel situation taking that route, but now I realize it was because I did not remember the circumstances of us not having enough fuel to cross 70

SO, you should be ok for fuel, as long as you take the stops when you can, Scipio, Salina, Freemont Junction, etc.

I am convinced not to take Hiway 6.&nbsp\\; As I look at the map, what about Hiway 28 from Nephi through Feyette, Gunnison, Centerfield, Axtel into Salina?&nbsp\\; Not sure of the mileage yet from Nephi into Salina, but I will as soon as I finish this entry.&nbsp\\; Am I still better of in taking the Interstate into Scipio then into Salina to Freemont Junction into Green River?....................Struens

Thats a nice little 2 lane country road as I remember. Ive gone that way on my way to connect with 24 and scenic byway 12 (an AWESEOME road BTW, but well out of your way for this trip) very little traffic on it, but as I recall its a 50 mph road in spots, so you have to decide if you mind loosing some time meandering down a country road (which I like to do) or blasting down the intersate is more what you want.

When are you going? Im about ready to meet you on the road and head down with you.
