Compass behavior w/BOOM 1.20.1 using 'heading up' setting
I upgraded to 1.20.1 yesterday and took a ride today. (2015 Ultra Limited, if that matters.)
I noticed that compass needle (orange portion, right ?) is not behaving correctly when I'm using the 'heading up' preference. It seems to get 'north' correct, but has east and west turned around ......... and other directions are way off, but I did not figure out the pattern yet.
The compass needle is driven by the GPS location and associated software, right ?
Please dont tell me this is related to my dealership removing the outer fairing to replace a broken speaker grill.
And sorry if I missed a prior discussion on this topic.
The compass is totally independent of anything else. Meaning 12 o'clock position is always North, but you read the orange end of the needle to determine your direction of travel, ie: if orange end is pointing down, you are heading South, if orange is pointing 3 o'clock, you are traveling East
Right ..... and the orange is not pointing in the correct direction for me.
I assume the compass is driven by the GPS, rather than some other device located under the fairing, right ?
Heading Up: The needle rotates to the direction of the vehicle (north, south, east, or west). For example, when heading east, the red needle points to the right (east).
Edit:
I obviously haven't updated mine yet, so I wasn't aware of the new function.
Ignore my post and carry on.
With the update, it works like a traditional compass regardless of mode. So the red pointer should always point to north.
It is no longer a direction indicator, it is now a compass...
"The heading directional display will now operate as a
traditional compass with the top representing the direction
ahead and the rotating needle shall point to the direction of
North."
And to answer the question, mine is working as it should.
