Default Trip to Gettysburg

I hear there is some good riding up near Gettysburg. I have a week off coming up soon. I wish it were near the time the Gettysburg rally was going on .. unfortunately my trip will be the week before.

Anyway Im looking for suggested riding routes from our local Gettysburg friends.

Would appreciate ride suggestions while Im in the area. Im doing this solo .. when I do these kinds of rides .. I riding most of the day .. stop at dark, leave after breakfast at the crack of dawn.

TIA for any help / suggestions

Couple of things you can do.
Head out route 30 west to the Flight 93 memorial..
30 east to Lancaster area and the Amish. (intercourse, bird in hand etc.)
day trip to Antietam and Harpers Ferry.
day trip north to Benezette to see the elk (Wellsboro as well but might be to long of a day)

All the above are nice rides.

Also over the Thurmont and around when you get to Gardners head back to Gettsburg.

Thurmont is where Camp David is and you pass by the entrance if you take the upper route through the park, you cannot see it from the road but will see the warning signs.

Here is the upper route through the Park going by Camp David:

Boiling Springs has a nice large pond area from an underground spring, there are food places around there also.

If you like covered bridges and like to explore here are some below Gettysburg:

And these are above Gettysburg a bit farther away but there are a few more close together:

Safe Travels.

I'll be in Gettysburg the same week--- have been there numerous times, a decent ride and visit is Harpers Ferry ,WV-- take the back roads down and back, you,ll enjoy the area [ Gettysburg] ,but be aware that it's extremely busy due to the anniversary of the battle-- there will be many re enactments going on.

I think US 29 to Culpepper Va. Then jump on 15 from there up to Gettysburg. Ive traveled 29 in NC and VA often. Not too bad .. some slow downs but thats fine. Need places to take breaks and get gas. Then US 30 over to Lancaster. I should be able to maintain at least 55 most of the way.

Ill be leaving before the 4th. Ill head up Friday the 28th. Grab a room. Ride the area the 29th and 30th. Maybe the 1st. Head back home the 1st or 2nd. ... and I will check out the Harpers Ferry ,WV ride. Maybe head that way when I go home. I have business in Lancaster that should be taken care of in a few hours. So Ill just need a room there for a night. Then Ill head back to Gettysburg which is the area that I want to ride while up there. Suppose I should stop in the local Harley dealership for the shirt !

Just a thought, if you are in the Lancaster area, make sure you check out the Shady Maple Smorgasbord. Amazingly good food, voted one of the best in the country. 129 Toddy Dr, East Earl, PA You can also add riding through Climax and Blue ***** to the list

Don't forget Intercourse, PA. Blue Ball PA & Intercourse PA are a few minutes apart, then on to Paradise PA and stop at Strasburg Rail Road, if you have time.

Climax may be too far North West.
