friggin snapped my rear axle in half on the softail while doing 60 MPH tonite..........bike fishtailed like a **********a but i kept her up and was able to get into the grass
my neighbor came with his trailer to pick it up for me...THANX DUDE!
had my other neighbor look at the snapped axle and he said it looks like there may have been an air pocket in the steel
bike is fixxed cuz i had another axle laying around
worst part about it is i just replaced my rear tire a month ago............
SO I KNOW:
i greased the axle with anti-seize (wheel bearings are perfectly fine)
i torqued the axle to spec (65ft. pounds)
i set the rear alignment correctly (same distance on both sides from the axle to the swingarm pivot)
doesnt look like it i was anything i did :shrugs:
but yes, that was scary as all get up, when i got home i had to check my shorts!
Good to hear you're ok Glenn.
I love that adrenaline rush. It has to be one of the coolest feelings.
I remember when I took a 30' screamer rock climbing. My belay caught me but I emerged from the fall shaking, alittle bruised but oh
what a rush.
