Default Alternative to New Hope

Since the governing body of New Hope are a bunch of dicks and don't want us there anyhow, I found a nice alternative. Check out Cold Spring, NY. If your coming from NJ it's a great ride over 7 Lakes Drive, the Bear mt. Bridge over the Hudson, then 9D to Cold Spring. it's a historic little town with lots of pubs and eateries, seems biker friendly(saw enough bikes there). Got an old train station thats supposed to be haunted and turned into an indoor/outdoor resturaunt. Good food and people. I'll be dropping my $ there from now on.

Starting from northeast NJ, you would take Rt17 north into NY State, From 17 in Sloatsburg you would make a right onto 7 Lakes Drive, thats where the fun begins. Continue to follow 7 Lakes to Bear Mt. Bridge over the Hudson River. Once over the river hang a left onto 9D. Take 9D right into Cold Spring. Another awesome ride up ther is to take 17 to 17M. 17M north) you may want to stop at the biker bar 'The Captains Table" where Springsteen is known to show up from time to time. 17M to Rt. 208. Rt. 208 N all the way to New Palz, New Palz is a cool college town with a lot of great pubs. The ride is two lanes, mostly 50 mph, with lots of sweeping curves, farms, and scenic overlooks. A real nice ride. On the way you can stop at the intersection of 208 and 17K, thats where Orange County Choppers is located and they usually have 10 or so bikes on display.

Messing up their quaint little town are we. Stopped there for lunch a few weeks back. $16 for a hamburger. Granted it was quite good. But it was abit unsettling to sit at the street cafe enjoying my meal while watching a parking **** walking down the street checking meters. This was on a weekday when there was hardly a soul in town. Just to be on the safe side I walked a couple blocks and fed the parking meter some extra coin.

And withNew Hopes finest beingarmed with decibel meters and having a mandate from the town council to git those bikers, we considered ourselves lucky to get out of the town w/o a ticket. In all fairness, I don'tknowhow strict the noise cops are. Maybe they're just out for the straightpipe guys and don't bother those of us with mere slipons.Don't wanna find out.

ButI can see whereopen pipes in a small town like New Hope can be a problem. I have dined at thatsame street restaurant on weekends and the bike noise can be deafening to the point where you can't even hear others at your table.

Guys there are lots of nice towns that way - Piermont, Nyack, Tarrytown, Irvington. The thing is, that getting to them from South Jersey is no where near as nice as heading west into West Jersey and PA. The area that New Hope is in is just beautiful and doesn't make you head thru central (ugh) NJ to get to..

Does anybody want us renegades???? I was to New Hope for the first time a week ago on Sunday and couldn't get over the meter ***** checking to see if your front tire is touching the line and checking the meter and writing a FULL value ticket for each of the four or five bikes in the box...they are making big bucks over one ticket for one car in that case why would they want us to leave....town would go broke if we left...LOL

Bone...

I know that area and Thunder Mountain is up there in Sloatsburg.... cool place !!
