Rtes 7 and 8 are nice and scenic but it's slow through the Pittsfield area with a lot of traffic lights. An alternate route is Rte 22 all the way to Rte 7 east (changes to Rte 9 in VT) and then take Rte 9 to Keene.

If you're headed to the southeast corner of ME, take Rt 4 over rather than Rte 101 which is busy and congested. In Keene stay on Rte 9 by taking a left at the second traffic light. Near Concord, take I-89 south to I-93 north to Rte 393/Rte 4 east. It may sound confusing near Concord, but it's pretty simple.

If you're headed to Bangor or points north, head for the Mount Washington valley and catch Rte 2 across ME. It's a secondary road but there aren't that many small towns to hold you up. It's a nice ride. If you're thinking about taking Rte 2, I can give you some directions through the White Mountains of NH that will get you there.

If you're looking for directions south, use these in reverse and change north to south, east to west, etc.

If your early, like 2am, 87 south right thru to the BQE, really a nice ride, over the triborough bridge, back on the BQE, over the Verrazano bridge, thru Staten Island and left onto the jersey pike.
Have the O/L camera in hand and it's a beautiful ride.

Thanks for the tip on Rt 22.&nbsp\\; I will be coming from Cairo NY, so that will work out better than going the Pittsfield route.&nbsp\\; It looks like Rt 9 and Rt 202 are the same road just before you get to Concord.&nbsp\\; I am planning on taking 202 all the way to Buxton, Maine, which is very close to Scarborough, my final destination.&nbsp\\; I see what you mean about going around Concord on the Interstates.&nbsp\\; Thanks for the tip.&nbsp\\;

Yes, you can take 9/202 off I-89 SOUTH west of Concord. It's much easier to stay of I-89 south til it ends and then get on I-93 NORTH for a short way. Then you'll get on I-393/Rte 202 from I-93 north.

If you can get over to the Garden State Parkway, take it to the end to the Cape May Lewes Ferry. Great ride on a bike and takes you to route 13 to the bridge tunnel. Nice ride.

Yes, we will probably do that.&nbsp\\; I took the ferry with my car about 40 years ago, and enjoyed it then.&nbsp\\; We will detour over to Easton, MD to visit my brother, then head south on Rt 50 to Rt 13 and the Bay Bridge/Tunnel.&nbsp\\; Should be a great ride.

Thanks to all for the tips.
