I am planning a trip from West Virginia through the the New England states and back home. If you have taken this trip or live in the area I would like to hear about your favorite routes and points of interest. I am sure they are some must see's and must ride these routes. I am planning on taking this trip mid June. Thanks.... Jim
There are a lot of really nice routes. Do you have your master route planned? I'll map some out for you and post later. Juse will be a real nice time to ride up here. Sounds like a nice trip.
If you are going to be up this way in mid June then you should plan on going to Laconia NH for Race week. It's a lot tamer than years ago but you can still have a good time and get in some great riding in the mountains.
Much depends on what you want to see. If you are looking for great New England roads here are some. White mountians of NH, route 7-169 in CT, Western MA, Vernont & Maine there are to many to list. If you get to CT send me a PM maybe we can meet for a ride or lunch. Have fun planning
I am heading up that way about the same time, out western,Pa. Run up the delaware water gap in eastern,pa route 209 i believe. Then jump on the NY pike for a couple exits and catch ny 7. Then run vermont 9 into Nh rt 9. That will take you to allmost laconia.
Dont know where youre coming from in W.Virginia, but if youre coming through Pa, I'd consider coming up 81 to Scranton and then grabbing 6 to 191 eventually picking up NY30 for a great ride along the northern rim of Catskills Park. Pick up 28 to 42 and grab 23a down through Hunter NY (Stop & take a ride up Hunter on the chairlift). A little ways further down 23a there is a place to stop for about a half mile mild hike to Kaaterskill Falls... tallest in NY.
In Hudson NY you could pick up 23 to 7 and then take that up to Vermont, but I'd jump over onto Mass Rte 2 for a short stretch and then pick up 100 into Vt... a bit slower, but I love Vt100. Plenty of places to stay, Inns etc. You could always jump over to Laconia if youre up that week. From there it's about an hour & half to Maine coast.
