Default Progressive International Motorcycle Show, Washington D.C. - yawn

This was my fourth year going. It never really changes. Manufacturers set up displays with this year's models. A stunt show. A stage where various company reps and minor celebrities (mainly racing, not media celebrities) give talks on things like suspension tuning and long distance riding tips. A few rows of dealers selling basically the same stuff you can find at any rally (or on the internet) - cheap overseas leather, patches, earplugs, spray anti-fog stuff....you get the picture. Plus a few high-end displays like Arai, Gerbings, etc where you can talk with a factory rep.

Food is expensive, parking is expensive. Prices are the same as on the internet. Of course, if you want to try things on, like helmets or gloves, it's much better than the internet.

It was kinda fun, but every year it gets a little smaller as the recession plods on. More empty space, smaller displays. Ducati shrunk big time. The Harley area was pretty much what you can see in any big dealership, plus a few interactive things like the Kick Start simulator and a "how a small woman can pick up a sportster" demo." A little underwhelming.

I wish they'd move it out of the DC convention center and into someplace a bit cheaper so they could entice more vendors to show up. Maybe someplace with (gasp) motorcycle parking.

Just wanted to post this in case someone is thinking about going in the future and doesn't know what to expect.

Default I'll Take A Pass

Last year was probably my last year, at least for a while, at the New York IMS Show. I had specific objectives last year, Gerbings being among them. I used the excuse that the worse case scenario would be a good NY deli sandwich but with the newer toll hikes and all the costs involved I think I'll take a pass!

Was my first visit to the D.C. show. The only other show I have ever gone to was last year at the Timmonium. Wow! What a difference! I am planning on attending the Timmonium show again this February....wiht that said, I will probably stick with that. I love the garage sale and real garage made bikes they have on display at that show as well.
