Bike Sat, Now burning oil
I had an accident in 2002 and was laid up the better part of twelve years.
My bike a 1991 Fat boy didn't see many miles during that time, I did have a friend ride it at times for me so things didn't dry out.
Then when I was able to ride again, I road around here local trying to learn how to shift with a heel toe shifter cause I have always used just a toe shifter but now my left ankle is fuzzed,
I only put 400 miles on it before heading out to Sturgis.
On that 36 hundred mile trip my bike used four quarts of Mobil 1 20/50 for the round trip and we ran about 80 mph all the way but It has never used that much oil.
So what I am asking is does anybody have any idea of what I should be looking for.? The bike only has 58 thousand miles on it. I did a compression test both cylinders are 170 dry and 180 wet with oil.

Guy,
Use a little common sense here. You have a 23 year old bike that hasn't been ridden much, if any, in 12 years. You didn't bother to say how many miles the bike has on it?
Rings get old and they lose their strength. When they lose their strength you start getting blow-by.
In short, that motor is due for a rebuild.

Does the bike smoke and if so what color is it lighter whitish or darker ? Next thing I'll recommend is dump the synthetic and start running old school dino 20-50 you may find the issue settles itself . Older sleds with some miles go through the syn oil.

Compression tests can be deceiving. 58k for a motorcycle is a lot of miles. It is especially a lot of miles when it has been sitting for 12 years.
Short of the oil blowing out all over your bike and leg during your ride, where else is it going if the engine isn't burning it? So, were you wearing any of the 4 quarts? Was the bottom of the bike coated in oil?
If not, has to be burning oil, there is only a couple of places that oil can go on a motorcycle.

If its for sure burning the oil it may be an issue of it's being sucked into the intake breather and burning it.
If the oil control rings are stuck it might take some time for them to free up. Maybe some type of crankcase flush would help if it's rings. With your compression I wouldn't think the rings are shot.
I'd check inside the air cleaner first.

Thanks for getting back to me.

If you used 4 quarts in 3600 miles I doubt you'll even see any smoke. I'd be suspect of the valve seals after a twelve year storage. ( My 2000 RG has 145,000 on it, had a set of take off heads installed at 75,000 and still doesn't burn oil, but its an almost daily. year round rider too.) I doubt that you have ring issue.
