Default Newbie Question

I went to change my oil today on my softail, when i went to undo the hex bolt under the motor the thing is like really on there. Ive snapped 2 hex wrenches trying to get it out. I just sprayed the bolt with lube and im gunna give it a go in alittle bit. has anyone else had this problem?

There is "NO OIL" in the motor (dry sump). The oil drain on your bike is a rubber hose coming off the bottom of the oil tank with an allen plug in it. Removing the hex bolt under the motor will not hurt anything, it's just not neccessary to remove it when changing the oil.

Are you sure you have the drain plug? Sounds like you are wrenching on one of the bolts that are red loctited in there. Some engines have plugs for oil pressure guage installations pre-tapped and plugged but loctited in there. If you are breaking wrenches chances are you are on the wrong plug. Best to consult your owners manual or get yourself a service manual before you work on your bike. The service manual has all the directions with pictures. They are available on ebay or Zanotti's HD website or at your dealer.

I sure hope you are not speaking about the plug in the bottom of the engine casing that you are trying to remove when you say you broke two wrenches so far.
That plug is installed with red locktite and is not meant to be removed in the field. Some have cracked cases trying to remove it. The drain you are supposed to use looks like this one below and is mounted through the lower frame, no other plugs should be removed for draining oil.

Yep, don't know about a "B" motor but many a poor fool hascracked his oil pan trying to remove the "casting plug" left from the manufacturing process. It is also the place many substitute for the installation of the sensor with an oil temp. gauge. To remove it safely (or sort of safely, LOL) engage the wrench and give it a rap or two with a rubber or plastic mallet. The shock tends to break it free without distorting the surrounding metal to the point ofcracking.
