Well, you brought the haters out. Since both the primary and tranny fluids are pretty new, I'm happy to hear some real world opinions on it. The haters should have just read the title and moved on.

The only way I would not use the oil recommended in the manual is if it would cure that first cold oil shift from neutral "clunk". But I have learned to deal with it.
That is the easiest one to cure I have ever found. Pull in the clutch, start the bike, put it in gear. I NEVER get a clunk on the "first" shift doing it that way.

Agreed, oil forum threads 3800, touring forum threads 185,000. They belong here - especially when discussing a (relatively) new product on the market that most haven't tried or perhaps even heard of. I just dumped all three holes and am using Amsoil 25W50, Primary & Transmission oil. It's still apart at the moment waiting for parts and powder coat so no report yet.

I just ran 5000 mi with the new primary and transmission fluid. Switching from the HD stuff I noticed a big reduction in noise and I was able to hit neutral much easier. After draining the Amsoil out the transmission fluid looked brand new. The primary fluid looked pretty good too but was dirty from the clutch residue. Stunk real bad coming out too. Refilled with Amsoil again and now have almost another 2k on it. No comment on the engine oil. It does what is supposed to do and still looked good when I dumped it.

I know this is an old forum, but I will give my past experience with Amsoil Primary Fluid on my '09 Fatboy. The engine was upgraded from 96 to 107. Amsoil Primary fluid was used with a heavy duty clutch spring installed. The first dyno test resulted in clutch slippage. The mechanic advised me to change the fluid and use a different brand. The 1st dyno tune was not done very well , so the bike was dyno tuned by a different shop which was recommended by Bobby Wood. The engine was re-tuned, and the 2nd mechanic advised there was clutch slippage showing on the dyno test. The mechanic drained the Amsoil fluid and use a different product. No clutch slippage after that. You will not notice the clutch slippage when driving, but he dyno machine will show the slippage.

When I called Amsoil about the issue, they asked if the engine had any upgrades. The associate related their primary fluid is only for vehicles with no engine upgrades. So in my opinion, do not use Amsoil Primary Fluid.

Gotta call BS on that claim. I'm using their primary fluid on my dyno-tuned Stage 2 Road King with none of this slippage you mention.

I run 80-90w GL5 full synthetic in the transmission. Store brand non-detergent oil in the primary. This on my 2002 Ultra Classic.
