[:@]Help - just built new Evo motor 1340 with Delrkon pre 1991 cases, std barrels, Jerry Branch heads etc. Major problem with it is, after oil is warm about 5 mins at idle, dipstick gets fired out of oil tank - about 3 feet!. Engine has usual top breather (to oil tank) in block beside oil pump (S&S) and bottom block breather is connected to a Hayden pressure releif valve - correctly plumbed. Oil tank levels are OK - not too high and oil pressure gauge is reading OK. Where the ? is the pressure coming from and why is the oil tank not venting?
HELP! I want to go ride it[:@]
Hey, you stated your top breather line is plumbed to your oil tank?If thats the case the presssure thats created by your pistons on the down stroke, is piped directly to your oil tank, instead of the air cleaner where its to be burned in the motor, or to the ground. and blowing the dip stick out of the tank.I'd double check the routing of the lines.,,,
I thought on the odler style blocks with 2 brather on bottom of cases beside oil pump, that bottom one for for overflow/sumping? (thats already connected to a one way brather) and the higher one, level with top of pump, was to be vented to oil tank - not air filte (cant vent to filter as we are using an SU with open trumpet. If we vented the top breather to atmosphere waht do we do with the oil tank vent ?
Further to last message. Got the bike running left engine to tank breather coneected as normal, after few mins popped the dipstick. Took the breather off the block and vented it to air, blocked the breather tube to tank. Run the motor - tank has little/no pressure build up. Vent pipe from block is pumping nicely though - let the pipe hang freely and let the air push it away from my hand - blows nicely but does not blow harder if engine is reved. Again put a compression tester on the brather pipe but does not register - perhaps the air is blowing back into the motor when thats done? but there is a good flow from the bottom end when pipe is clear!
Surely someonelse must have seen this problem before!
As per a previous reply - is the top crancase breather on the Evos not supposed to be plumbed to the oil tank?? or should it be to the air cleaner?? and the tank breather blocked off. Then would it not make more sence to connect the bottom crank breather (sumping one) to the oil tank breather which would allow excess oil back into system for no loss??
last time i saw this happen the internal rotary breather was hosed on my brother-n-laws evo lump. swapped to the s&s reed style and cured the problem for good.
Cam Covers - well follow up to dip stick blowing - we ended up fitting +10 rings, honing cyclinders and fitting the new S&S rotary breather all ok so far & no blow by. Fired up motor and still sumping/burping oil everywhere.....what to bloody well do??? Someone suggested it may be a late model 1993+ cam cover thats fitted when the cases are 1991 Delkrons and that the oil way in the breather compartments are different!
Canm anyone send some pics or describe what differeences we should be looking for
