Default HD360 Turning Black

I’m not an oil expert but I do know that after some usage, bike oil (as well as a car’s) will turn dark. The issue I’m having is that after my dealer (good people) changed the oil in my trike (2015 Freewheeler with 103 engine), after 3,000 kms (approx. 1,900 miles), my HD360 oil is unusually dark, basically black. Don’t recall this happening to this extent, what would cause this to happen?

it's doing its job cleaning..did you by chance switch to an exposed high flow performance air cleaner? those let more dirt into the engine and consequently the oil and oil filter will be dirtier sooner than just using the OEM paper filter..during this recent period have you been riding more in drier, dustier road conditions? hi flow air filter and dusty dirty airborne contaminants will do that

heat cycles will darken oil
soot from incomplete combustion will turn it black
darkness of oil is not an indicator of service life, oil analysis will tell the story.

If you do mostly short trips it may turn dark quicker than if you are riding mostly longer rides. Whatever, ride on!

Sounds like some good feed back, I’m thinking yes it must be that the short rides and rich carb causing the oil to blacken up quickly.

And as for fuses and fuel pump…that’s on somebody’s else bike! This baby is stock and ready to rock( once I get her figured out &#129322

Thanks you all!
