True or False?????
The only thing they've done so far that I didn't like was they push one brand of aftermarket synthetic oil (non-HD) real hard, and put it in our three bikes at the 1k service when we requested synthetic. Said we'd love it, it was the best thing since sliced bread... [sm=icon_blah.gif]
I drained mine at 3000 miles and the oil was black and had a distinctly burnt odor. Black doesn't really bother me as it generally means the oil is keeping the engine clean inside. But the burnt odor, especially after only 2000 miles in the engine, set off my red alert. I'm a mechanic and have done a lot of oil changes over the years in all kinds of engines, and burnt = bad any way you look at it.
Drained it out of all 3 of our bikes- with 2000 miles on the oil the '07 Softail was burnt about the same as my EGC, and with 1500 miles on the oil the '07 883 Sporty was not as bad but was heading that way fast.
I changed oil brands and though I haven't changed the oil again in the bikes, I pull some out every 500 miles with a syringe & look at it. Have about 1300 miles on mine since the change and it looks fine with no burnt odor.
I think one of the service guys sells the aftermarket brand oil to the dealership, which is why they pimp it so hard.
Kinda lame for a dealership to do IMO, but I guess that's business...
The writers at Crossroads HD in Wilkesboro NC are pretty good guys, the parts guys are exceptional. The store is a bit pricey for a W. NC store though.
Tilley's HD in Statesville NC is first rate in every respect that I can see so lots of hardworkin' writers , wrenches and salespeople at some Dealers and they get a bad rap for the rotten ones' actions.
EZ
