Ok, I just got a 2002 Wide Glide.. I had a 2001 fat boy , but havent ridden for 4 years... But I forgot alot about the maint... I ordered a manual..
alright the bike has 14k miles on it and I live in arizona.. I decided to go with Mobil 1 syn, I do not know what has been used in the past in this bike..
Questions:
Capacity of motor oil
capacity of trans
capacity of primary
also what weight and type oil for the trans and Primary. do they both use the same??
Last question, I have a leak on the primary, It looks as if its coming from under where the drain plug is, IS THERE an O-RING there????
If you are using Mobil 1 then go with Mobil 1 20/50 in crank, Mobil 1 75/90 in trans and you can run 20/50 or ATF or HD Formula + in primary. I use Formula + and like it, I don't see the point of running synthetic in primary. Trans will take 20-24oz, I would go with 22. Primary you should make sure it just covers the bottom of the clutch basket, I dump in 32oz. Yes there should be a little brown o-ring on the primary plug. I am not sure about your crank capacity, but believe it might be about 3 1/2qts.
Thanks, now I see some take the derby cover off and see some just take off the inspection cover.. can the gaskets be re-used?? I also see some just dumping a qt in the primary, but it does not seem enough if the capacity is that much....
Im kind of going with the mobil one in the crank, the 75/90 mobil gear in tranny.. Just still up in the air on the primary, see so many different thoughts on that on..... some say to go with the mobil one, others say not to, some say the 10w 40w in there and others say just regular M/C 10w 40 oil in there.... I would just buy the harley primary oil, but dont have a dealer here to buy from...
