Way back when we had to run 60 or 70 weight oil in our Pans. we would use the available 50W and one or two cans of STP, Anyone adding STP or similar additives to their oil of choice nowadays?????? I have been considering using the Rottella syn 10w40 and a shot of STP in my EVO???
I'm guessing you want to dump the STP in to try and get the viscosity up closer to the recommended 50w. But the STP is basically an additive package, and there is a very good possibility that some of the stuff in it might work against the additive package in the Rotella, leaving you with little or no protection in some area(s). I'd not use it in my bike.
I think the STP might have been good stuff years ago when the typical oil was pretty lame compared to what we can get now. My ol' man, a diesel & Chevy mech for about 40 years, said if you needed to add stuff like STP, it was time to go to a better oil, and to change it more often. And he was a rare individual - he got well over 100,000 miles on one of those cheesy GM Olds 350 gas engines converted to a diesel that Chevy stuck in its pickups back in the 70s.
