In my area premium is $3.58 and regular is $3.05 a gallon, most pumps are single nozzle which means I am probably putting a solid gallon of regular gas (about a 1/3 tank) in myNightster before it starts pumping premium... seems like a real waste. I thought it may actually be wiser to just put in regular and then supplement it with the HD fuel formula. Just not sure if the HD formula is a good alternative to putting in premium fuel. Don't want to sound cheap but I hate wasting money.
Anyone else try doing this with favorable results?
No, I don't like fuel additives with the exception of fuel system cleaners. Just don't top off your bike unless the guy in front of you at the pump is driving a Corvette...worrying about how much gas is in the fuel hose is way too **** and no reason to use 87 octane gas in your engine.....unless you want very poor fuel economy and your bike to run like $hit. JMHO
If you really need high octane fuel (forced induction, high compression), it's a valid concern. Low octane fuel will beat your expensive motor to death.
The amount of fuel left in the hose is actually quite small, like 3 pints. So make sure your tank is close to empty before filling up. Then you'll still have mostly premium.
If you really do need to add something to increase octane, use Toluene. It's safe and effective. You can buy it by the gallon at Ace Hardware. You can find the formulas with a google search.
