Default Change Older Bike's Oil Type?

WOW, I've been reading for hours about all the oil options....I thought my car was confusing! The 89 Heritage I just picked up, the guy has run DH Dino in all 3 holes since new.....HD 20/50 engine, HD primary oil, and HD transmission oil. I have to give a hats off to the previous owner, he is old school, and very good at it, my dilemma is being a synthetic guy, would I be opening a can of worms switching over to Amsoil on a 20 year old bike?

It's been re-worked 10k ago, has no leaks, and runs and shifts out well. After a long hard ride, I do get some rocker noise, which I know can be common on the Evo's that are cammed, and if I went out to start it now, the engine would be quiet as a mouse and also on shorter rides.

I also have Jim's roller rockers, and adjustable push rods, Crane ignition...

Any thoughts would be awesome, It's due for a change before the winter.

well if it's made it 20 years on the old tried and true oil, I wouldn't change a successful combination.,,,

If you wanna try the synthetic you shouldn't have any problem, especially since it's been redone 10k ago. In my garage that makes it about 6 months old! If you happen to get more top end noise and it bugs you, just switch back to a dino. I'd go for something less expensive than the HD; maybe Valvoline VR-1 20w-50.

+1 I wouldn't change it either. If you want a dino oil with a better additive pack try Brad Penn 20w50 racing oil if you can find it. But I would not go syn in a bike older than about mid 1990's.
